Lake Washington Institute of Technology – Center for Design

The new Center for Design at the Lake Washington Institute of Technology supports a much-needed expansion of the classroom space supporting The School of Design and Applied Arts, while also incorporating an all-campus Events Center. In keeping with the design-oriented focus of The School, a steel-framed superstructure will be exposed and celebrated with the building, showcasing the braced frames that comprise the lateral force-resisting system. Dowel-laminated timber will provide both the structural framing and the architectural finishes at the roof, and custom-fabricated steel and timber composite trusses at the Event Space will enhance the structure and provide a focal point for design inspiration.
