I grew up with a passion to build and create, be it arts and crafts projects with my friends, snow forts in the backyard, or fifteen types of Christmas cookies with my family during the holidays. Combining that interest with a lifelong partiality for science and math, I knew I wanted to study structural engineering before I applied to my first college. I’ve been lucky enough to work for companies in both California and Washington on projects ranging from designing a support for a twisted tree trunk to designing entire buildings. Being able to walk/bike/drive by a structure that I have designed is a true point of pride for me, no matter the size or material. I love being part of a project team and working toward a common goal with the owner, architect, contractor, and consultants. I put a lot of weight (pun intended, buildings are heavy) in my work to produce a quality product that I can be proud of. In my spare time, I’m usually in the middle of several different projects at once and making more plans for later. I love being outdoors and will talk your ear off about being born and raised in Alaska if given the chance.
